Greetings from the Sea Turtle Healing Center at Brevard Zoo. We continue to stay busy with turtles in for a variety of ailments. We currently have 12 patients being treated, 1 Loggerhead, 1 Kemp’s Ridley, and 10 Green Turtles. One thing we would like to note is that 4 of the Green Turtles have injuries from fishing gear and all of them came from Port Canaveral. This is our friendly reminder to all who enjoy fishing. Look out for turtles and make sure that you keep all of your gear in check. When you leave your fishing spot take everything you brought with you, especially your trash. Leave nothing behind. Also look for turtles as you fish. If you see one move to a new spot or hold off on fishing until the turtle to moves on. Fishing gear is a big problem for all wildlife found in and around our waters. If you are like me, watching wildlife is a great activity while we are enjoying our special time on the water.
