Learning to properly cast is an integral facet of our Hook Kids on Fishing programs. Here are a few tips to help first time casters have a more rewarding and successful experience.
Teach awareness first. The student should learn the importance of safety, particularly looking around to make sure nobody will get hit by the rod or the cast.  Follow this up by a lesson of how the rod and reel function; and finish up with the fundamentals of casting, and hitting the target.
When teaching casting to multiple kids you need to make sure they do not wander off their spots and get in each other’s way.  We recommend spacing out hula-hoops and having each child keep at least on foot inside the hula-hoop at all times during practice casts. It’s best to also reemphasize safety steps and procedures as the lesson evolves.

Remember casting counts when fishing, and it is usually the first cast that counts the most.
