One of the responsibilities the Anglers for Conservation board of directors and its executive committee face day-to-day, besides the business of maintaining a non-profit organization, is the process of reviewing the steady stream of fisheries and conservation issues coming across our desktops. It’s a big, impossible challenge to properly analyze each position and assess its consequences.
The conservation topics impacting recreational fishing in Florida and around our nation are numerous. Topics vary greatly from changes in fishing regulations, and recreational fishing closures; to attempts by big developers to weaken Florida’s Water and Land Legacy Amendment; plans to expand Port Canaveral into the Banana River Lagoon’s Manatee Refuge (No Motor Zone) and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge; to efforts to protect western Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks.
The AFC continues its focus on education and thereby empowering the community to make the right decisions.
