“Adopt an Area” Program
Recently, AFC “Got Involved” by adopting a mile long stretch of road on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge that lines the southwestern edge of Mosquito Lagoon. This section of Biolab Road was adopted through the National Wildlife Refuge “Adopt an Area” program. With our adoption comes a pledge to keep that section of road clean for visitors, anglers and the various animals that call it home. Keep your eyes peeled. Our next clean-up will be happening soon!
7th Symposium on Harmful Algae in the U.S.
Students, established harmful algae (HAB) bloom researchers and policy makers, managers and scientists from non-governmental agencies, academic institutions, and local, state and federal agencies are invited to join us in Sarasota for the 7th Symposium on Harmful Algae in the U.S. Anyone who works on HAB issues is encouraged to attend the only national conference focused exclusively on HABs. 2nd Annual International Surf Fishing Tournament (ISFT) Coming this Fall
The International Surf Fishing Tournament returns to the Indian River Lagoon coast this coming October. This premier event will include informative workshops focusing on surf and paddle fishing. Tournament winners will take home thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, and the tournament award party will surely set the standard for future parties. (http://www.surffishingtournament.com)
Indian River Lagoon (IRL) Paddle Adventure
Join us on a truly once-in-a-lifetime paddle adventure. This is an effort to have fun while increasing people’s awareness of the IRL’s many incredible resources. We’ll also be raising money for an IRL educational trust established for scholarships and grants for students studying subjects related to the IRL’s betterment. During the IRL Paddle Adventure at the end of this year, we’ll be paddling and camping down the entire length of the IRL, from New Smyrna Beach to Jupiter Inlet from December 1st to the 21st.
