July 22 @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Note: Registration is closed for this event.
Anglers for Conservation is a 501 c(3) non-profit whose mission is to inspire new generations of marine stewards through education, conservation, and fishing.
Hook Kids on Fishing (HKOF) is for kids between ages 5-15 and taught by professional guides, knowledgeable anglers and scientists. This hands-on, conservation-minded and educational fishing program teaches children casting, knot tying, fishing safety, catch and release, fish habitats, conservation and more!
What to expect:
- Interactive fishing lessons for kids such as learning proper casting techniques and how to tie knots.
- Hands-on demonstrations of sustainable fishing practices like how to handle fish and catch and release practices.
- Engaging talks on coastal conservation
Volunteers are needed to help with the following outreach:
- Casting Station: Help guide young anglers as they perfect their casting technique.
- Hooks and Rigging: Educate participants on the importance of proper hook tying and rigging techniques.
- Conservation: Share insights on how fishing practices can promote conservation efforts.
- Bait & Tackle: Assist with talking about bait selection and tackle, ensuring a successful fishing experience.
- Rod Handling & Safety: Teach kids the essentials of safely handling fishing rods and equipment.
- Boating Safety: Discuss marine wildlife interactions while fishing and boating with educational material from Save the Manatee Club.
We have prepared outreach materials in the form of note cards to facilitate your engagement at these stations. Additionally, there are several other crucial roles where we could use your support, including registration, organizing t-shirts, bait preparation, timekeeping, photography/media and more.
Your involvement in any capacity on the day of the event is immensely appreciated. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and foster a deeper appreciation for our natural environment.
Don’t miss this chance to build community, embrace nature, and empower our future generations to become responsible stewards of our oceans.
